HaloSauna™ · Frequently asked questions

HaloSauna™ questions, answered

Everything operators ask before they buy - the therapy, the cabin, the technology and what it takes to run one.

The therapy

The HaloSauna™ is a true 5-in-1 cabin: halotherapy, infrared sauna, aromatherapy, chromotherapy and guided meditation.

Unique usage protocols have been tested and developed to deliver the most effective salt therapy. Both the sauna and the halogenerator were custom designed and engineered for the synergistic effect of the two together.

Yes. When the air is dry and warm it allows for deeper penetration and better absorption of salt particles in the bronchi. Halotherapy at low levels of heat enhances both the experience and the efficacy of the therapy.

A cave or room is kept cool to reduce humidity, not temperature. If humidity is too high, the microscopic salt particles attach to moisture in the air and become ineffective.

Infrared is dry heat, so moisture is not an issue.

Infrared heats your body directly rather than simply heating the air. In a traditional sauna you sit in a hot room at 180–220°F. In an infrared sauna the heat is absorbed by your body, with only around 20% heating the air.

That raises your core body temperature and stimulates your lymphatic, immune and cardiovascular systems, producing a profuse sweat. The water in your body also resonates with far infrared heat, which supports the detoxification process.

This is why front and back heaters matter. Our salt saunas have heaters all around you - front, back, sides, legs and feet - so you raise your core temperature properly.

Two highly effective, detoxifying modalities in a single session, each maximising the efficacy of the other. You get the full benefit of a spectrum sauna session, halotherapy enhanced by low-level heat, and a true 5-in-1 product that gives your clients more reasons to book.

The cabin

North American Basswood - a pale wood with a dense cellular structure, making it strong, stable and sweat resistant, and resistant to cracking and splitting.

Basswood is also considered hypoallergenic. It has almost no odour and is one of the only woods not classed as a “sensitizer” for people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities.

Salt is highly corrosive, even in a dry environment. Salt particles will find their way into a sauna’s electrical components and eventually short them out.

There is also an optimal, gradual temperature curve and session length needed to enhance halotherapy in a heated environment. We spent years finding the right integration of both modalities, and that technology - HaloProtectant™ - has been extensively studied and built into the HaloSauna™.

The units can’t be exposed to the elements, so they need to be inside a building or shelter - ideally somewhere the humidity isn’t too high.

Straightforward. It generally takes two people who are used to building things around 2–4 hours, and a detailed installation manual is included.

The HaloSauna™ (1–2 person) runs off a standard 110V outlet at 15 amps. The HaloSauna™ (2–3 person) runs off standard 110V but requires 20 amps. Check the specification for the model you’re interested in for its exact electrical requirement.

Technology & safety

The frequency of a far infrared heater is determined by its surface temperature. The lower the surface temperature, the longer the infrared wave - and the more beneficial the heat.

True Wave™ far infrared heaters run at an optimal 180–200°F surface temperature, producing most of their heat in the vital 6–12 micron range, with a good portion at 9.4 microns - the optimal absorption range for the human body.

True Wave™ heaters combine the high infrared output of ceramic with long-wave carbon infrared heat.

True Wave™ far infrared heaters are the only infrared sauna heaters designed to cancel out both EMF and ELF.

EMF levels in your HaloSauna™ are mostly below 1mG when tested directly on the heater itself. Where you actually sit, EMF is virtually 0mG. ELF levels are three to five times below the threshold of concern.

Yes. All objects give off and receive infrared heat - it’s a part of nature and essential to life. It is safe enough that hospitals use similar heaters to warm newborns.

Yes. Halotherapy is a completely drug-free treatment and is safe for all ages. Session times and concentration levels may be adjusted depending on age and treatment goals. Please consult your physician with any concerns.

Yes, assuming they have no major health conditions. It’s generally better to wait until a child can tell you if they feel too hot or uncomfortable.

Because infrared saunas run at a low temperature, children tend to find them more comfortable than traditional saunas - but their internal temperature still rises, so supervise them and keep them well hydrated.

“I have used infrared saunas with my children since they were about three or four. I just didn’t turn it up too hot and started with shorter, cooler sessions to get them used to it. It’s a wonderful way for children to relax, and to warm up in the winter.” - Erin Lee, VP Product Development

Running it

Very little cleaning is needed, and there are no regular maintenance tasks or parts to replace for the enclosure itself. The halogenerator needs only minimal cleaning.

Infrared provides dry heat, so the only moisture is from perspiration, and the enclosed cabin keeps out dust and dirt. Treat the exterior like any piece of fine furniture.

Wipe the interior occasionally with a sauna cleaner or your own solution - a few drops of a quality essential oil in water (tea tree, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon), or a tablespoon of baking soda in water. Use a moist towel and never spray directly onto the heater panels; a dry cloth is best for glass.

Have guests sit on a towel with another underneath their feet. If there’s excess moisture after a session, wipe it off or crack the door and run the sauna for a few minutes. Perspiration stains don’t affect performance, and can be removed with light sanding if you wish.

Each session uses around a quarter to half a teaspoon of salt - only a few cents per session.
